Chapter 1: The missing link
Is it possible to isolate one or more parameters that allows us to find continuity between ancient rituals and contemporary clubbing?
This chapter develops around the search for a missing link, telling a story as old as our own race. Here we present a necessary question mark, in order to properly contextualize "clubbing".

Chapter 2 : Elements
There is a strong parallelism between clubbing and ritual’s elements, that suggests technology as the strongest variable at the origin of the difference we find nowadays.
The stimuli that both crowds are looking for are very similar, preparatory for an experience with two kinds of enrichment: individual, and social. Here we describe rituals, as if we were talking to somebody who never experienced them.

Chapter 3: Sounds, in the megacity of Nigeria - Lagos
Through the questions of Inês Valle, we explore Lagos and its cultural heritage, using sounds and rituals as the main threads of our narration.
Seun Kuti, Andrew Esiebo and Ade Bantu talk about their relations with sound, and their experiences in group practices. From their words, a repeating motto arise: community.

Chapter 4: Transcending the sensorial code
There is much more than measurable phenomena. This chapter dives deep into a world of individual experiences, hardly comparable, therefore excluded from a fair debate. It shows us humans, as complex, ancient and (luckily) still mysterious machines.
The beauty of rituals emerges, where a conservative eye doesn’t dare to watch: in the altered states of consciousness.

This exhibition was created during the 2020 pandemic.
In these days, clubbing has never felt so far away.
With this project, we hope to shine light into an important social practice that has always been there, evolving, adapting and surviving.
