The oldest art establishment in Thailand
Established in 1943, Silpakorn University is the oldest university for the arts in Bangkok, Thailand. In 1949, Silpakorn hosts a competition that became the oldest and most important art competition in the country named National Exhibition of Art (ศิลปกรรมแห่งชาติ).
Lens to 7 decades of Thailand art history
There are over 600 artworks the Silpakorn university collects to date. In partnership with Google Arts & Culture, Silpakorn University digitized these important nation's collection with Art Camera.
The Art Camera is a robotic camera, custom-built to create gigapixel images faster and more easily. A robotic system steers the camera automatically detail to detail, taking hundreds of high resolution and sonar that uses high frequency to measure distance of the artwork.
Here you can see the team getting ready to carefully getting the paintings ready, getting the colors balanced, and making sure the light is just right for the Art Camera to pick up on every detail.
