11 May - 23 June 2018 - Fondazione Matalon, Milan
In 2018, the Matalon Foundation had the honour of hosting the first solo exhibition in Italy of Japanese artist and calligrapher Sisyu.
Sisyu's works transpose calligraphic art into a contemporary language, offering a new dimension and new artistic perspectives.
In Sisyu's research, the fusion of different expressive techniques is fundamental, a vehicle for energy and vitality, in a constant tension towards spirituality.
Through her works, the artist creates a message that can reach an international audience, without the need to know Japanese characters and calligraphic codes.
She herself talks about her art, emphasising how calligraphy is, for her, a way of finding calm in the chaos of life.

Sisyu's works express the infinite starting from the finite and responding to that need for eternity of which everyone's spiritual life is an expression".
