Delhi Photo Festival 2015: Arun Vijai Mathavan's "Urban Mountains" series

Arun Vijai Mathavan is a Kanyakumari based, engineer turned photographer, who is working on environmental issues and social documentary. He is particularly interested in exploring issues of spaces with its relation to the environment and urbanization. He is currently studying photography at the National Institute of Design in Gandhinagar, India.

For the first time in human history, in 2007, more than 50% of the world’s population was living in urban areas. In the last 50 years, the developing world has seen the most radical migrations to cities, with people flooding them looking for a better life.

Huge mountains of waste, creating a new looming landscape that no one wants to talk about, now frame these cities’ outskirts.
