Behind the Barbican scrapbook

Jack Waller was a structural engineer who worked for Arup, one of the Engineering firms tasked with realising the architectural vision of Chamberlin, Powell and Bon.

While on site he made home videos, recording footage including this moment when a time capsule was inserted in the Barbican's foundations.

Waller also documented the long process of building the Barbican by compiling this scrapbook.

The scrapbook includes a wide range of material and is an invaluable source for understanding the Barbican's history. Jack Waller's family kindly donated his scrapbook to the Barbican Archive.
