What remains today of this research in the artistic practice of young Italian artists born after 1970?

Artists such as Silvia Giambrone, Chiara Fumai, or the members of the Franco-Italian collective Clairefontaine, began from the pioneering research of the time and reached new conclusions through the same means of expression.

Silvia Giambrone (Agrigento, 1981) explores the theme of the body from a different point of view: that of abuse and domestic violence.

Through various expressive mediums, including video, photography and performance, the artist forces us to reflect on the way in which power enters everyday life by influencing relationships.

The exhibition Corpo a Corpo/Body to Body, organised by the National Gallery of Modern and Contemporary Art in 2017, displays Silvia Giambrone's work entitled Elegia duinese n.1 (Duino elegy no.1)

the work is inspired by the homonymous poem by Rilke and is composed of a hard mineral and a malleable part which, unlike the first, allows you to leave a bite on the material, forming a visceral connection with it.

It is things themselves that ask to be heeded, through dance, the body performs a courtship that twirls from era to era through geologies of repentance and glaciations of hatred”.

These are the words through which the artist wishes to emphasise the relationship between the body and objects which in this case is conveyed through the use of two differing elements (amethyst and red clay) yet connected by their extremes: hardness and malleability.
