European Postal Stamp Collection In The Honour Of Mahatma Gandhi

European countries like Italy, Belgium, Germany, Ireland, and many more have issued stamps honoring Mahatma Gandhi, the great leader of all time.

Mahatma Gandhi is considered as one of the greatest visionaries born. His fight for the nation’s freedom and the practices he chose to follow made him famous all over the parts in European countries.

Belgium has issued stamps commemorating various personalities, including Gandhi.

Easdale Island issued a Mahatma Gandhi miniature sheet with Taj Mahal as the background image to celebrate the 50th year of India's Independence.

A block of 8 stamps was issued by Easdale island to celebrate his birth centenary. It shows Mahatma Gandhi's portrait at left corner and different pictorial presentation of various stages in his life. Like Gandhi as an adult, him sitting with the spinning wheel, etc.

To celebrate the birth centenary, Germany federal post office issued a stamp with M K Gandhi portrait on it as a way to honour the great leader.

Hungary also celebrated the birth centenary of Mahatma Gandhi by issuing a stamp with his portrait on it.

Mohandas K. Gandhi believed in the universality of the human condition and in a moving letter he wrote from a Birmingham jail said: “Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere.” 

This is another first-day cover issued by Gibraltar as a tribute to Gandhi along with other famous personalities.

This is the first stamp issued by Great Britain on a foreign citizen (non-British).

The stamp was designed by an Indian artist, Mr Biman Mullick, who explained his philosophy of trying out a simple design to conform with Mahatma Gandhi's principles.

In 1997 San Marino issued a stamp to celebrate the 40th Anniversary of India's Independence.

It has Palazzo Pubblico (‘Public Palace’), the official govt building of San Marino image on the left and M K Gandhi portrait on the right.

His quote is also mentioned in it, 
"I have nothing new to teach the world, truth and non-violence are as old as the hills."

Another stamp from Mordovia shows the films that have won the academy award.

It features 'Gandhi', the 1982 period biographical film based on the life of Mahatma Gandhi.
