About Wole Soyinka
Wole Soyinka was born in 1934 at Abeokuta, Nigeria. Author of numerous, plays, collections of poems and books of memoirs, he was awarded the Nobel Prize for literature in 1986.

This is, unmistakably, an Igbo flutist. Recognised from the cap and the attire, it’s one of the most massive representations—tribute, shall we say—to music that I have in my collection.
The flutist welcomes in the resident artist, that’s one of the reasons in fact why I purchased it. I placed it here, normally an artist’s residence. It’s just the entire compact which fascinated me.

Ogun Drum
What's unique about this one is a combination of Ogun devotion with the drum. It's very real that you get a drum which seems to be dedicated to Ogun as such. The most famous drum deity is Sango whose tree is ayan

now the ayan tree of course is what surprised the drum but the collaboration between Sango and Ogun symbolically very striking ayan as the drumming is associated with Sango, but the carver of course is a devotee of Ogun, so you have here a real marvellous example of syncretism
