The initiative showcased a selection of the holdings of the Fondazione Fiera Milano archive, digging up thousands of original documents. The holdings of the archive are currently being digitized, as part of a project begun in 2011.

The exhibition brought the public face to face with the various formats of the original documents held by the Fondazione Fiera Milano Archive, which since 2011 has been running a major campaign to digitize its collections.

Beyond the exhibition

PROSPETTIVA was not just an exhibition. It was also the first important milestone of a photographic archive project sponsored by the foundation and AFIP International, in partnership with the Triennale Milano.

PROSPETTIVA starts with the holdings of the Fondazione Fiera Milano Archive and involves the collection, preservation, and cataloguing of the photographic documents. Its aim is to unlock the value of what is a true cultural goldmine by opening up access to the collections via an online platform and organizing a series of exhibitions and cultural events for the public.

That collection is set to expand in upcoming years through the strategic acquisition of the photographic archives of leading Italian photographers, with the aim of building a new and unique depository—a first of its kind in Italy and the world—of the heritage of Fiera Milano, the city of Milan, and Lombardy.
