Echoes of 1932

In 1933 the First Mexican Congress of History was held in Oaxaca; in order to show the attendees the diversity of the state, several activities of a regional nature were carried out.

Soon after, the celebration of the XXV anniversary of the beginning of the Mexican Revolution was another opportunity to represent the Guelaguetza and to organize an economic fair.

Gradually, the dances and music that were presented in 1932 and 1935 were incorporated by teachers in the social programs they organized in schools.

Today, the dances and dances of Oaxacan origin are an important reference in the festivals that take place in the educational institutions of the state.

In the 1930s, the foundations were laid for a sense of Oaxacanness based on the cultural diversity of the inhabitants of its territory and the perception of them in the state capital.

Gradually, this meaning would emerge as an important element of regional identity, which surpassed the identity based on charros, chinas poblanas and mariachi music.

Oaxaca's cultural diversity was a reality that conditioned the miscegenation discourse.
