The Klangdom
Inside the blue cube of the ZKM, the Hertz-Lab works with a 49.4 speaker environment performing productions, recordings, installations and concerts. The Klangdom was conceptualised as an idea of Ludger Brümmer with the team of the Institute for Music and Acoustics in 2003.
Audiovisual installation ODO by Chris Ziegler
Not only musical works are created for a presentation inside the Klangdom. As well many theatrical works use this immersive sound environment. Here it is an artwork including movable LEDs remotely controlled to add a visual dimension to the acoustic immersion.

Klangdom installation with 23 speakers
The Klangdom is quite a versatile installation with different numbers of speakers, here installed in the Hamburger Kunstverein. Works by H. Herndon, M. Dryhurst, L. Brümmer, O Karamanlis, V. Murat, M. Richter und A. Schubert were presented. You hear Glasharfe by L. Brümmer

Klangdom in front of Chroma Lux
Chromalux, large light sculpture created by rosalie was installed in front of the Klangdom and premiered with the composition Cellularium. Both were created using a specific score and dramatic layout.
Cellularium & Chroma Lux immersive composition in two dimensions
In this work two immersive experiences are combined with each other. The roughly 30 by 12 meter light sculpture Chroma-Lux created by rosalie was combined with a 24 channel Klangdom installed in front of it. The musical composition Cellularium by Ludger Brümmer was composed simultaneously with the visual score displayed through Chroma Lux. Both works were played simultaneously synchronised by time code.
Zirkonium
A software to control multiple channels within arrays of speakers, developed at a time where no other tool like this existed. It is the aim of the ZKM | Hertz-Lab to foster creativity in new technological areas and to enable artists to conquer new fields.
Introduction into Zirkonium by Dan Wilcox
With the software Zirkonium it is possible for everyone to create an immersive experience for the audience. Complex paths of multiple sound can be drawn or controlled in realtime. Algorithmic methods can be used to create iterations of paths. Or a numeric definition of movements can be performed
The speaker setups creates the link between the movements of the sound inside the computer and the physical installation of speakers. Each speaker is defined by its position and from this information the computer is able to calculate the amplitude value of each sound and movement in order create the impression of a or several moving sounds.
