Eiffel Tower Stairs at Al ForsanExpo 2020 Dubai
Eiffel tower stairs
These stairs you see were once connected to the second and third floors of the Eiffel Tower, the centerpiece of the 1889 exposition in Paris.
Few remember today that for years the famed spire’s fate was a shaky one. In the beginning, the Eiffel Tower was scorned by the intelligentsia as an “odious column of bolted metal.” Originally slated to be dismantled in 1909, just two decades after its construction, the Eiffel Tower eventually inspired more devotion than disdain from other contemporaries with a wider vision, like Janat Dores, whose Paris teahouse served its aromatic brews at the Eiffel Tower’s opening in 1889.
Nearly 150 years old now, Janat Paris brings to Expo 2020 this segment of the tower’s original staircase. Designed spirally to suggest the “rising infinity of life,” the coiled flight of steps is dedicated to Mohammad Saleh Al Gurga, the author, poet, and philosopher, a “traveling encyclopaedia” of Emirati culture and history who aspired to lift the people of the UAE to the same soaring heights as the Eiffel Tower itself.
