Working in an era of intellectual effervescence, behavioral questioning and transition of customs, George displayed an intense brilliance in his achievements, in professional interaction and in private life.

In the wake of Brazilian photographic culture in the second half of the 20th century, one name was among the biggest references: George Love. A charismatic artist, he was always surrounded by an aura of mystery, which bordered on legend, as well-known as he was enigmatic, due to how much he was exposed and how hidden he was.
The light he brought to the environment went beyond the walls and reflected on the atmosphere and people, who glimpsed the infinite possibilities of a remarkable means of expression. His actions in the cultural, editorial and corporate world expanded the horizons of photography, opening paths ahead of his time. Consciously or not, generations of Brazilian photographers follow his inspiration and his model, which stands out among the roots of our contemporary times.

Calling him a genius is also not hyperbole. George Leary Love was born on May 24, 1937, in Charlotte, North Carolina, United States. Black, the only child in a simple and cultured family, he completed his first higher education studies before the age of 20.
He also adopted the camera early, envisioning the professional possibility in the travel photography segment, represented by image archives, an important market at the time, with which he would remain connected throughout his professional life.

Moving to New York for further studies, he soon began to dedicate himself to photography as an authorial creation, having his first shows in galleries in Manhattan, giving courses and lectures.
Thus, he was accepted as one of the youngest participants in the Association of Heliographers, a restricted group of exponents of American photography who promoted the art, proposed its expansion and innovated the use of colored prints in the exhibition medium.

George Love identified with the proposal, so the ideas of this association are an important key to understanding the work he developed throughout his life. In a short time, the young photographer became vice-president and coordinator of the association's gallery.
There were two intense years, between 1963 and the end of 1965, until the entity closed due to lack of resources.

The prospect of a new direction was offered to him by a rare foreign heliographer, who encouraged him to venture across the South American continent.
In January 1966, George joined Claudia Andujar in Belém for an unusual expedition into the interior of the Amazon, a true epic to the land of the Xicrin. They returned to Belém, went up the river to Iquitos, then Lima and Bolivia, and entered back into Brazil via the famous “death train”. They settled in São Paulo, in the apartment on Avenida Paulista, got married... and then the rest is history.
