A Month of Art Across Waltham Forest

June 2019 was a jam-packed month of art across Waltham Forest with Art Night, E17 Art Trail, Ways of Seeing, and more.

Art month begins...

Back for its 15th year, the E17 Art Trail returned bigger and bolder than ever before, as part of the Waltham Forest London Borough of Culture 2019 programme.

Artworks on every corner

E17 Art Trail is a much treasured gem in London’s cultural calendar, taking place every other year across Walthamstow. In 2019, artists were invited to respond to the theme 'Wonder', and audiences were invited to encounter artworks on every corner.

Ways of Seeing

Art lovers could also enjoy Ways of Seeing throughout June 2019. Presented in partnership with the Government Art Collection, Ways of Seeing transformed the borough into a gallery, with over 60 artworks by international artists presented in unusual and unexpected locations.

Artist Cory Arcangel and organist Hampus Lindwall collaborated to invite a group of artists and musicians to compose new music to be performed on the organ of St Mary’s Church Walthamstow.

In the live durational sound performance called Automobile, the artist and composer Joe Namy tapped into London’s custom-designed car stereo subculture, and invited local car owners and their souped up systems to a rooftop car park congregation.

At the William Morris Gallery and Mirth, Marvel & Maud, Walthamstow-based artist Emma Talbot presented a series paintings on silk installed at both sites.

It's Alright

Taking inspiration from East 17’s hit single It’s Alright, artists were invited to create new works that brought people together.
