Bologna, Teatro Comunale

The city of Bologna commissioned Antonio Galli Bibiena to build a new theatre and it opened on the 14th May 1763.

For more than 250 years, the Teatro Comunale has been one of Italy’s most important opera houses where the enthralling magic of singing, music and drama is created, developed and perpetuated, home of extraordinary events, with great artists that made its name eternal.

The photographer’s lens brings to light the true life, the beating heart of this institution made of women and men, emotions and professionalism, craftsmanship and technology, substance and intelligence.

And it’s right this transposition in the photographic language that the truth and beauty emerge and become poetry:

its architectural structure, the corps de ballet’s rehearsals, the musicians, the make-up artists, hairdressers and technicians.

Seen all together, these images can make you dizzy, the same feeling Migliori must have had after climbing up to most inaccessible corners of the theatre.

These photographs give access to a continuous back-stage and bring under the spotlight the places that are usually forbidden from entering.

Thus, the theatre seems to turn into a sailing ship, when the photographer decides to shoot the scene from above as if he was observing it from the mast.
