Opening
The Azerbaijan National Art Museum is a treasure house that preserves our national moral values and cultural heritage. This treasure house, holding more than 17,000 artistic exhibits, has a rich working history. The Art department was separated from the Azerbaijan State Museum in 1936 and organized as an independent museum by decision of the Council of People's Commissars. The first exhibits were collected for the museum during expeditions and some were purchased. In 1937 the opening ceremony of the museum’s first exhibition took place and in 1951 the museum was moved to the Baroque-style De Bour mansion built at the end of the 19th.
Paintings
Portait of Hazif Shirazi. Illustration to Hafiz Shirazi’s book named "Chosen poems". In the work of art portrait of old Hafiz Shirazi with white turban and blue aba has been depicted in the front part. His long face, black beard, big meaningful eyes, black thick eyebrows and toughtful looks draw attention. He has been elbowed on his arm on a red mutakka and keeps white paper in his left hand. There is a jug on the right part of the work, and high cypress and cloudy sky have been depicted in the background. Light and bright colours have been used in the work of art.

Chalikushu - the work of art a young girl (Farida) in front of table in a classroom has been depicted. Her big, black eyes, thick eyebrows, lips and dark headscarf draw attention. In the back plan there are two veiled girls and blackboard on the left. Colours: dark blue, dark green and greyish.

On the eve of Nowruz holiday. Two women has been depicted during Nowruz holiday. One of them, the old one has sat on the carpet folding one of his legs. She decorates shakarburas. In front of her there is a piece of wood to knead dough on with shakarburas on it.
Woman is dressed in blue skirt, dark blue, patterned blouse, ornamental socks and headscarf. Behind her, a young woman in modern pinkish-blue dress has sat on a chair. She has black hair. Sitting behind the table on which there are samani, dyed eggs she decorates shakharburas. Blue, red and green colours have been used in the work.

Girl with sherbet. In the center of the compisition a young girl in a half turned position with her face to spectator on brown-grey, pink background has been portrayed. She is in a dress with big collars. Her hair is parted in the middle, she has earrings and a pink shawl.
Compulsory wedding (1972/1972) by Abdullayev Mikayil Huseyn oglu (1921-2002)Azerbaijan National Art Museum
Compulsory wedding. Its composition is consist of three parts, the wedding party of Layla and Ibn Salam has been depicted. In lower left part, Ibn Salam with white aba sitting in tent and sunk in thoughts, in the right side next to him crying Layla in red dress has been depicted who has turned her face from him. In the center of the painting guests surrounding the golden coloured wedding tent and in the upper part camel caravan going in the darkness have been painted.
The composition full of dramatic effects is in a dark purple frame. Dark blue, red, yellow and green colours have been used.

Two refugee women figures.Two refugee women with the background of ancient monuments of Nakhchivan have been depicted. Their white and orange dresses, white headscarfs and shoesless, bare feet attract attention. In the second plan, mosque with minaret and one part of an ancient architectural monument look.
Natavan (1983/1983) by Sadikzade Oktay Seyid Huseyn (1921-2014)Azerbaijan National Art Museum
Natavan. Work of art the poetess Khurshidbanu Natavan sitting on a tabouret has been portrayed. She has been elbowed on her left arm on the table with open book on it, her left hand is on her face and her right hand holding rose is on her knee. She is in a national dress with silk scarf worn over the head and golden bracelet on her left arm. The work has been painted with white, red, ochre and green colours.

Street of Old Baku. The street between two shops in which merchants have sat, on the right side a road paved with stones, children playing on pavement, in the front part mirza and a man who dictates him a letter have been depicted. Mainly brown and grey colours have been used.
Ornamentation
Moon-star (A part of the woman neck jewellery). A sample of Azerbaijani National jewellery. It is consist of a crescent and a star. The crescent has been made of gold in a lattice style and has been decorated with “buta”-shaped floral ornaments and precious stones –ruby, emerald and pearl.
Earring “40 buttons” by UnkownAzerbaijan National Art Museum
Earring “40 buttons”. It is one of the National Azerbaijani women head jewellery. Earring is round, it has been decorated with small buttons, made of gold with lattice technique. On the lower part there 16 buttons. There are 23 small round ornaments on it.

Women jewellery. It is a sample of national Azerbaijani jewellery. The bogazalti which is consist of decorated with colourful stones and pearl, unites with main polygon pattern and crescent in the center. Bogazalti is silver covered with gilt.
Suspender as a part of ancient female jewellery item by UnkownAzerbaijan National Art Museum
Discovered in Saatli-Sabirabad territory during archeological excavations. This jewellery item was made in forging and decorative pattern style. Its central point is decorated by a blue-white natural stone.
Houseware
Single handled vessel. Its has a handle on side made of red, tinned copper. It is depicted Stylized geometrical and plant patterns of various sizes inside it. The date of mid pattern is written in Arabic both in Muslim -1241 (Christian-1826) calendars. Inside the vessel is ornate with carved patterns. The animal image at bottom is processed primitively. There are Arabic scripts on the locket on the pattern ( in honor of Sahib Ali Naghi and designed as a keepsake)

Arakchin (Skull-cap). It is made of blue coloured ganauz cloth. There are white, blue, black and other coloured eight-cornered stars in the center. Its edges have been decorated with stars and rhombic ornaments. There is a tassel on its top.

A pot. The ball-shaped dish has three legs. Eastern scenes have been described on the wide border on it. These scenes are aparted with columns which are similiar to Persepolis columns. There are geometrical, floral ornaments and inscriptions in kufic on the borders which locate on the upper and the lower parts.
The scenes on the dish are from Nizami Ganjavi’s "Fitna" and "Eskandarnameh" works. The names of "Mohammed the prophet " and "Imam Ali" have been written in Kufic.

Sherbet spoon. The handle of the wooden spoon of which lower part is boat-shaped has been decorated with carving technique. There are two buta patterns, two medallions, two birds consist of colourful spots and floral ornaments on the handle. Floral ornaments have been carved on the back side of the spoon.
Red, green and blue colours have been used.

Socks (Joraba). Mainly brown colour has been used while knitting the sock. There are three red medallions on it which have been bordered with green line. The upper side is consist of different sized strips with geometrical ornaments on them.

Vase. The body has been decorated with medallions. There are four flowers and two human images on the medallions. Between the neck and the body there is a decorative strip with floral ornaments on it. The whole surface of the vase has been decorated with floral ornaments.

Verni - It has two intertwined sections. The red colored central section is consistently designed with "S" shaped large size patterns. The narrow pattern comprises three sections: wide stripe in the center and two narrow stripes along sides. The stripes have been designed with simple plant edgings. Fringes are red.

Syrup vessel. Wide mouthed syrup vessel tapered towards body and then widening again stands on oblong base. The vessel is ornate with different shaped edgings and geometrical and plant patterns
