Richard Hundut was an American businessman who was successful in the production of cosmetics. He created perfumes such as "Queen Anne Cologne" and "Aimée" and lines of hair cosmetics. They were sold in department stores to richer, more sophisticated customers.

The perfume designer was Jacques Guerlain, and the inspiration was a love story - in the book, the wife of Japanese Navy admiral Mitsuoko fell in love with a British officer.
The bottle was made in the Baccarat studio.
