Casa Do Design Matosinhos

Casa do Design is a key space for the exhibition, dissemination, archiving and production of design knowledge. It stems from a partnership with the City Hall of Matosinhos.

Burilada - artifacts for survival, 2016

Burilada, Casa do Design's inaugural exhibition, had design objects on display that are agents of reconfiguration of the culture heritage in contemporary Portugal. It sought to relate design and its arts and crafts dimension, by recovering artifacts, folklore, practices and identities.

Almanaque - Portuguese Graphic Design in Review, 2017

Almanaque presented the history of graphic design, illustration and printing in Portugal. Consisting of magazines from José Bártolo’s collection, Almanaque depicted around 150 years of ideas, aesthetic currents and technological transformations evident in graphic design in Portugal.

Discos Orfeu (1956-1983) - Images / Words / Sounds, 2017

Discos Orfeu presented the legendary Orfeu record label, created in 1956, in Porto, by Arnaldo Trindade. The first major exhibition dedicated to this record label, it displayed countless record covers and documentary material by some of the greatest Portuguese designers of the 20th century.

Imprimere, 2018-2019

Imprimere - Art and Process in the 250 years of the National Press: Documentary exhibition that brought together instruments, machinery, technologies and artifacts illustrating the history of print production in Portugal. Imprimere sought to convey a didactic perspective on the graphics, techniques and technologies involved in book production.

An exhibition gathered the estate of the multifaceted artist, illustrator, comedian and poet António dos Santos, a.k.a. Tóssan, someone who only wanted to discover his own identity. The exhibition displays Tóssan’s drawings, caricatures and documentation reflecting the artist's creative process.

Exhibition of the work of Thomaz de Mello, Tom, whose activity as an illustrator and designer developed from the 1920s until his death in 1990. The exhibition showcased original illustrations, publications, ethnographic figures, graphic and photographic material and other elements of Tom's work.
