Forests

For centuries, the forested lands have been providing shelter and livelihood for Slovenians who skilfully utilise this raw material provided by the carefully maintained forests.

Wood was used for construction and heating and numerous handicrafts are also linked with it.

Even today, when technology invents modern building materials, engineers and architects frequently resort to wood. Its warmth and scent are unmistakable.

Hayracks

Among the picturesque villages in the Slovenian countryside, you may notice wooden structures called hayracks

Farmers used wooden hayracks for drying and storing hay, which was mowed in the summer and stored for feeding animals during the winter months.

Other produce, various cereals, corn, flax, legumes or farm tools and machinery were also stored under hayracks.

Glamorous camping in the embrace of wood

Slovenia is not only a land of idyllic camping sites where you can spend the night in the hotel of a thousand stars, but you can also camp exceptionally glamorously at certain destinations. Glamping experiences are a global trend for travellers who want to experience nature first-hand, but in a comfortable way.

And certain glamping locations in Slovenia are truly outstanding. Those presented below are particularly linked with forests.

A peculiarity of this forest glamping site is a forest library where guests can borrow books and enjoy reading them on the jetty while accompanied by the sound of a natural orchestra: bird song, the croaking of frogs and wind whistling in the treetops.
