Living Archives | ViViFICAR Project

This project of visual archives is based on the Museological Center of the Upper Douro collection.
Initiated by Arnaldo Duarte da Silva with the support of Torre de Moncorvo Municipality, this is a space for sharing images of the municipality and its surroundings.

The Primary School teacher and photographer, Arnaldo Duarte da Silva collected, during more than twenty years, several pieces of archaeological and ethnographic interest, a vast collection of images (mainly photographs) of the region of Torre de Moncorvo and other municipalities of the Upper Douro, as well as photographic tools related to the art of photography.

Jose dos Santos Peixe (1917-2002)

The "Foto Peixe" collection is the most relevant collection of the museum centre. It contains thousands of photographic records, machines and equipment for the reproduction of images.

This collection was acquired from the heirs of the photographer, whose commercial photography house "Foto Peixe" worked for many decades in the town and municipality of Torre de Moncorvo, but also in other municipalities of Tras-os-Montes. The registered themes range from religious festivities to the activities that mark the life of the county, such as mining or the connection to Sabor river.
