Weaving Our Stories

The United States-Thai alliance benefits both our nations and supports peace and prosperity in the Indo-Pacific. The United States and Thailand engaged in their first official diplomatic interaction on March 20, 1833, when they signed the Treaty of Amity and Commerce.  

Edmund Roberts, who negotiated this treaty during a mission to the Far East as Special Agent of the United States, received instructions dated January 27, 1832, that directed him to negotiate treaties with Cochinchina, Siam, and the powers of Arabia on the Red Sea.

Since World War II, the U.S. and Thailand have significantly expanded diplomatic, security, and commercial relations and people-to-people ties. As of 2024, the United States celebrates more than 190 years of close diplomatic relations with Thailand. 

2023 marked a landmark year of a shared history and values between the United States and Thailand. We honored this special occasion with "Weaving Our Stories", a U.S.-Thai initiative highlighting enhanced cooperation and strengthening the enduring bond between the two nations.

On February 1, 2023, Ambassador Robert F. Godec and Thai Vice Minister for Foreign Affairs Vijavat Isarabhakdi revealed the anniversary logo to more than 100 civil society leaders,  government officials, business sectors, and youth leaders at the Ambassador’s residence.
