Grünt, the Rap Prescription

Discover the history of the collective, told by its founder, Jean Morel

Grunt Tour 5 by Collectif GrüntLe Mila

Founded in 2012, Grünt is originally just a youthful impulse to want to create its own media, its own platform without asking questions, filming artists as soon as we can, organizing concerts, writing papers, in short talking about music in all its forms,

to talk about rap especially, and this at will, without ever asking questions.

Originally, Grünt is a webzine, which from the start, proposed an original format: inviting rappers to come and "freestyle" in an apartment on a 30-minute instrumental mixtape, guaranteeing them total freedom of expression.

Growing alongside an increasingly exposed scene, Grünt's mission is to accompany emerging artists, by multiplying media formats, between concert recordings, interviews, documentaries.

To follow this ambition, the association had to structure itself as a company and an audiovisual production company.

Among the dreams of this young company was that of independence, and more precisely that of a totally independent radio station, free of charge, without advertising... For that we needed a studio, but how could we afford it?

It is at this precise moment that we had the chance one day to walk the sidewalks of the street of the music, and to discover the Mila, which believed in our project and allowed us to settle down in the Milab, to renovate a small basement and to settle there.

It is thus in the heart of the music street that we were able to broadcast for the first time, in December 2020. Grünt Radio was born, and with it the hope of a new adventure and more and more music, but above all, a new field of exploration, the podcast,

a format that was dear to our hearts and that gives pride of place to beautiful music stories, those that have moved us for almost 10 years now.
