The advocacy around LGBT+ issues has opened up significant spaces for the recognition of the LGBT+ rights in recent years in Angola.

One of the biggest and most important recent milestones is the Discrimination Based on Sexual Orientation that has become a crime, configuring as an aggravating element in determining the measure of the sentence, according to the current Penal Code (articles 71 and 212).

The Association Íris Angola expresses its willingness to give priority space to key-issues related to the LGBT+ community, such as the Right to Equality, Justice, Education and Health (Mental and Sexual). 

The LGBT+ community is our strategy, together with key-populations and the thematic sector in the fight against HIV in Angola.

However, ÍRIS intends to give relevance to the population that represents it, committing itself to actions to defend, protect and the rights of LGBT+ people.

The photographic campaign “See Beyond Your Prejudice” aims to give a face to the LGBT+ community inside and outside Angolan society.

In a way of fighting stigma and discrimination that still has an impact on the daily lives of LGBT+ people,

It is also a way of, as an organization, affirming the principle of equality and respect for all people, considering them as individuals with rights, needs and duties.

The images aim to promote the sexual and gender minorities inclusion in society, respecting the diversity and uniqueness of each person, without discrimination or prejudice based on gender identity and sexual orientation.

We want to promote non-discrimination of people in all aspects, especially with regard to their gender identity and sexual orientation.

A comprehensive work, done with members and LGBT+ movements in Angola, as a way of giving visibility as a holder of the right to the LGBT+ person.

Our objective and vision, as an organization, is to reach a society where they effectively have space, voice, equality, integration, participation, freedom of self-determination and full rights.
