Technical description of a steam locomotive / Reșița (1950) by Reșița Mocăniţa - Last of the Carpathian Forestry Railways
The operating principle of a steam locomotive starts with heating the boiler by burning a fossil fuel (wood and coal for the Vaser Valley locomotives). Water vapour under pressure is collected and directed to the pistons.
The operating principle of a steam locomotive starts with heating the boiler by burning a fossil fuel (wood and coal for the Vaser Valley locomotives). Water vapour under pressure is collected and directed to the pistons. The steam enters the cylinders, exercising pressure on thepiston rods and thus causing movement of the connecting rods, which in turn are linked to the driving wheels. Thus the linear motion of the pistons is converted into the circular motion of the wheels.
