Vladimir Herzog (1937-1975) was a journalist and filmmaker whose personal life was little known until recently. Best known is his assassination by the military, at the age of 38, a fact that generated an inflection in the dictatorial regime that lasted from 1964 to 1985 in Brazil.

We recognize here his sensitivity as a photographer, in addition to his struggle for democracy and freedom of expression, to humanize and keep alive the legacy of his artistic production in the more than 2000 photo negatives, slides and photographs of his authorship present in his collection.

Clarice Herzog tells that “Vlado was the family's official photographer". His pleasure in perpetuating the faces and poses of his wife, his children and his close friends was undeniable.

According to Ivo Herzog, his family is very small, both on his father’s and on his mother’s side, “and the relationship we have with the Jordão’s family is not family on the strict sense only because it is not in our DNA”.

We cannot fail to notice that his photographic practice is anything but ordinary. There is not only careful attention to detail, but also a frequent search for unusual angles and framings.
