Supporting people living with HIV
We've been helping support people living with HIV for over 40 years. While effective treatment has meant the reality of living with HIV has changed radically in that time, our commitment to people living with HIV remains the same.
Buddies provided one-to-one support
In the 1980s and 1990s, particularly before the advent of effective treatment for HIV, volunteer buddies provided one-to-one support to people living with HIV.
Reducing stigma
We were named after Terry Higgins to help put a human face to the HIV epidemic. Since our founding we have worked to reduce the stigma against people living with HIV by educating the public.
Helping people living with HIV access services
We've also helped people living with HIV access benefits, housing and services to which they're entitled.
Meeting the needs of communities
It's important to recognise that we cannot take a blanket approach in our services and we need to tailor them to meet the needs of the individuals and communities who need them.
Moving with the times
We were early adopters of websites and online message boards to help make support accessible in more ways.
