An Aerial View of Ayutthaya Post-Floods

A detailed look at the effects of rain on Thailand’s monuments

Prone to floods, partly due to its location in the Central Lowlands, Ayutthaya is very often victim to damage during the rainy season. Some years are worse than others.

CyArk traveled to the site in 2017 to document the temple to better understand how the site was impacted by the flooding.

The documentation was conducted utilizing LiDAR and both aerial and terrestrial photogrammetry.

Over ten thousand images were taken from drones to document the highest portions of the stone chedis or stupas.

The data will be used to determine how the monuments are subsiding as some of the chedis are beginning to lean.

All the data was aligned together to create a high resolution 3D model that can not only be used by conservators but can also be uploaded to the web.
