The Single Dome of Chunakhola Mosque in Bagerhat

It’s hip to be square

Unlike the 60 dome mosque that sits around 1km to the north west, the Chunakhola mosque in Bagerhat only has one dome.

It’s built in the same Khan Jahan Ali style present throughout Bagerhat and is thought to have been constructed in the 15th century. It measures nearly 14 meters by 14 meters.

The eastern façade has three arched openings to the prayer hall with some intricate terracotta tiles around the entrances.

The mosque is supported by four circular turrets on each corner of the monument.

The mosque was digitally documented in 2019 by the Department of Archaeology of Bangladesh and the nonprofit organization CyArk.
