After the children, the grandchildren
First-born Nara had João, and her sister Marília had Pedro, Lucas, and Gabriel. Preta is mother to Francisco, who is the father of Gil’s first great-granddaughter, Sol de Maria. Bem is father to Bento, Dom, and Sereno. Bela is mother to Flor and Nino. And José is father to the twins Roma and Pina.
The musician had his childhood dream come true, “fathering a boy.” He has yet much to fructify this “orchard,” as Gilberto Gil called his big family in an interview to Ela magazine, of the newspaper O Globo, on August 2017.

The raising of his children was satisfactory, according to themselves in the videos they recorded talking about their father. Some of the grandchildren also stated their gratitude towards Gil, who spoke to newspaper O Globo in a modest way about the nice work he had done:
“I had a small concern in providing for them so they could grow and develop under minimum standards of sociability and education, but not out of the usual for any father. I would say that, in a certain sense, I am less zealous than a great deal of parents nowadays, who take the leading into a path thing way more seriously, for my children have always had plenty of freedom.”
