Pierre Henry was a French composer, and is considered a pioneer in electroacoustic music.
Born in Paris in 1927, he began studying music with a private tutor at seven years old. Between 1937 and 1947, he studied harmony with Olivier Messiaen at the Conservatoire, and composition with Nadia Boulanger.
In 1959, Henry began working in his first private studio, Apsome (Applications of Sound Processes in Electroacoustic Music), on rue Cardinet in Paris, then in Saint-Germain-des-Prés in 1966.
Five years later, the Apsome studio moved for a fourth time, to rue de Toul, in the 12th arrondissement (district) of Paris, and became Studio Son/Ré in 1982. It was a place of life and inspiration, at once studio, a library, and exhibition space for his paintings.
From 1996, this House of Sound, began to draw an audience of loyal listeners under the aegis of the Festival d'Automne, the Centre Pompidou, and the Paris Quartier d'Été festival.
Among the retrospectives and creations, major scores such as Intérieur/Extérieur (1996), Dracula (2002), and even Voyage Initiatique (2005) can be found.
