Renaissance: MICHELANGELO

He began serious works as an artist in age thirteen and did not stop until death claimed him seventy six years later. Michelangelo Buonarroti served this masters, at various times as painter and architect, but he considered himself above all to be sculpture. MIchelangelo is a gifted man and really talented in his period which is 1475-1564.

Doni 'Tondo' is a great artwork by Michelangelo Buonarroti in 1506-1508. It's called The holy Family. Mary sits directly on the ground without cushion between herself and a ground to better communicate the theme of her relationship to earth. The frame is ornately carved and rather unusal for five heads it contains three dimension of space.
The period this sculpture was built in was Mannerism. The sculpture orignally meant for the funeral monument of pope Giulius II Della Rovere, was donated to Duke Cosimo in 1564 after michelangelo's death, by his nephew Leonardo.
