Unlike Christian art as seen in this painting, Islamic religious art doesn't depict people or animals.
Much of Islamic art uses calligraphy for decoration, this has religious significance because many times it is words from the Koran. This is considered the only real world depiction of Allah(God).
Pictures of people and animals were allowed in secular luxury Islamic art but not in religious art.
