A. This man looks proud and power. He is in armor so he looks as if he emits power from his being. B. This painting shows that in order to show your masculinity, one had to be powerful and show their power to others. C. The artist is Netherlandish Portrait painter who was born in the Netherlands and died in Antwerp. He was fairly well known for his many paintings.
A. This man looks to be very proud, but neither happy nor sad. He looks to be a sophisticated man or at least an educated man. Even his clothing shows that he was a man of nobility. B. This painting shows that men were powerful if they were educated and proud. In addition to this, clothing showed the status of the man. C. The artist is Frans Hals, a Dutch, Golden Age, Portrait painter. He played an important role in the evolution of the 17th century group portraiture.
A. The man looks to be powerful and very proud. He shows no sign of weakness and his clothing shows that he is of high status, most likely in the military. B. This portrait shows that men, just as the other two portraits, were still signs of power that clothing was a sign of status. Power was important in the masculinity of the man. C. The man did not show much other than his face. C. The artist, Ladislav Mednyánszky, was born in Hungary and died in Austria. He was a painter and philosopher. He was an enigmatic figure in the history of Hungarian art.

Along with this, he has a sad look to him as if he has been through a lot of sadness in the war. B. This picture shows that it was normal for men to be powerful figures and protectors. They dealt with a lot and their masculinity was based off of their ability to deal with different difficult situations with power. C. The painting shows that society viewed woman as in charge of taking care of the children and not much else. Their clothing showed their status, yet it did not reveal too much. C. The artist, Agnolo Bronzino, was an Italian painter who was born and died in Florence. He was mainly a portrait painter and painted for the Medicis.

This painting shows that woman were starting to become much prouder people, yet their clothing was still humble and did not show too much of their bodies. It also seems like society was hard on woman as this lady does not seem happy. C. The artist is anonymous and therefore, no information could be found.

This portrait shows that the times were starting to change and woman started to become more independent and started to show more of their bodies. C. The artist, Mary Stevenson Cassatt, was born in America and died in France. She lived most of her adult life in France and created images of the social and private lives of women.
A. This woman is showing a lot of skin and looks as if she is being treated as an object. She does not seem humble at all. B. This painting shows that women were seen as objects and were not very humble. It became normal for them to show much more skin in that time. C. The artist, Daniel Hernández Morillo, was a Peruvian painter who spent most of his life in Paris. He won the right to study in Europe later in his life.
