The Adachi Museum aims to integrate natural, formative and traditional beauty utilizing its founding pillars of "Japanese gardens" and "Japanese paintings". Its Japanese painting collection is dominated by Yokoyama Taikan, who was one of the greatest masters of modern Japanese painting. Adachi Zenko, founder of the Adachi Museum, had a great admiration of Taikan and poured his efforts into collecting Taikan's works. The works of Taikan housed by the museum include figures, landscapes, and flower and bird paintings. The insights gained from his works typically move the traditional Japanese spirit. During his life, Zenko extolled Taikan as a transcendent painter. And this is a sentiment I now share. The Japanese gardens express various tastes, and one of these is the "White Gravel and Pine Garden", which was created based on Taikan's art. Today, the museum has a total of 120 works by Taikan from his early to late periods. In addition to these two pillars, the museum houses the Ceramics Hall and the Annex of contemporary Japanese paintings, aiming to project Japanese aesthetics to rest of the world. Through the Google Art Project, it is my sincere hope that art enthusiasts will travel from all over the world to visit the Adachi Museum of Art. Takanori Adachi, Director, Adachi Museum of Art
