Ms. Jellinghaus

I chose a straightforward theme: the HAT. But what is interesting is that in each case, the hat represents something different. In several pieces, the hat has a direct function: for sport or for leisure. But at least in two cases, with the Buddhist mandala and the Egyptian pharaoh, the hat has a symbolic function, representing Enlightenment (nirvana) in the first (a symbol of the expanding mind) and kingship in the second.  This demonstrates how one and the same thing (a hat) can have completely different meanings in different cultures.
