art 114/350 teeter

Art historians have said that red lines painted on the faces of some of the figures suggested they were used for Cycladic mourning rituals. Figures such as this one were also perhaps in relation to some event in it's owners lifetime. There is no written evidence from the Cycladic culture so there is no way to be certain, but these sculptures were evidently important to Bronze Age Cycladic people.
