Portraits of the Straits Chinese

The Baba societies did not only established themselves in the Straits Settlements but also in many parts of the Dutch East Indies (Indonesia) where they were equally as prominent and firmly established. Hence, Colonial Singapore and the Straits Settlements cannot betalked about separate from other Baba communities from other colonies. As such, the collection of the NUS Museum's  features portraits from other colonial constructions, with the inclusion of some portraits from Indonesia, mainly from thePasisir region of the coastal towns of North Coast Java
