Some Lovely Images
I spent hours looking at this painting once.
This painting represents the ascension from the Renaissance for me. Look at the distortions: The small man in the lower right, the uncapped column.
I wish there something from Arena Chapel, but this will do. Giotto was the beginning of humanistic expressions in art. It was more than a century before we saw this again.
Look at the freaky skewed skeleton in the foreground.
The Frick is one of my fave museums in NYC. I grew up seeing this painting frequently.
I just had to include some Caravaggio. This is quintessentially him: Chiarascuro, action at all angles. And make sure to zoom into his face.
Someone very important to me gave me a Steichen book for my Bar Mitzvah. I still have it somewhere.
Ingres always represented beauty to me.
