This piece, along with others, was commissioned by Augustus The Strong. The porcelain pieces could not be glazed due to cracking and any paint That was applied has since been removed.
This is a porcelain vase in the style of Chinese meiping vases or plum vase. It has a floral design, like many of his works. It is simple and beautiful.
Here is an authentic meiping vase made in the vicinity of Jingdezhen, China. Meiping reffers to pottery that resembles a woman's body. It is porcelain with blue underglaze with multiple dragons in or over water.
These biomorphic sculpures are made out of ceramic trash collected from Korean kilns along with aluminum, epoxy and 24K gold leaf or powder. Each one shows traditional Korean aesthetics.
Clara Chipman Newton oversaw the decoration and glazing at The Rockwood Pottery Company starting in 1881. It is Japonism style, with an under sea scene. Glazed with greens, browns, black and white.
