Celia Johnston

I chose to use the ocean as my theme for this gallery for two reasons: the first being that I spend my summers in a house by the ocean and have always found it to be a very centering, calming place, and the second being that the ocean is something that has remained static from the beginning of time.  Because of the ocean's constant appearance, I was interested to gather images from different time periods to see how the depictions of the ocean changed throughout different cultures and eras.  My favorite thing about this gallery is looking at the transitions from each picture to the next and seeing the realist, impressionist, expressionist, and modern influences in each piece.  My favorite image in the collection is the last image "Blue Sea" by Dae Won Ynag as I am very drawn to modern art and abstract style.
