Immigration and Migration

Immigration is defined as the movement of nonnative people into a country in order to settle there. From mass migrations in history to just a single person, artist have throughout history captures the emotional and major life altering choice of moving from one’s home country into another. This selection of work titled Immigration and Migration, characterizes the journey and the people who endured them. In selecting the works, I looked to the United States’ long history of immigration and to my own personal experience of the topic to select works that truly capture the complex emotions of moving from the known to the unknown in order for a better life. I also selected works that shows fears and uncertainty of living in a country foreign to you. The section of paintings, photographs, and mixed media all transcend ideals of immigration from either a personal experience or from first hand witness.
