The birdcage is what drew me to this work of art. If you visit my home, you would see them mixed in with my décor. This painting measures 185.5 x 130 cm. and is a painting made from oil on canvas.
Hutty fell in love with Charleston after visiting to teach classes. He returned for the next 30 years to create art that inspired other artist to visit the region. This is created from oil on canvas.
Taikan brought color to the Japanese style exhibition with it's blue flowing background, red autumn leaves, and silver rippled waters. This painting is color on paper adhered to six panel screens.
This piece was created on a pair of six fold screens. The summer image shows a cherry tree, willow, nightingales, and pheasants. The left is a pine wrapped in wisteria, flycatchers and turtle doves.
Split in the interpretation, this oil on canvas shows either exciting development of technology or vanishing of wilderness with the cut tree stumps. This is a dilemma that faced many in the 1850s.
