Ben and jack's russian revolution
Why were the Bolsheviks successful in the October Revolution?
1st March: Tsar Nicholas II abdicates, bringing centuries of autocracy to an end. The Provisional Government take over, but inherit a lot of problems.
Lenin wrote his April Thesis on the way back to Russia from exile. It outlined his policies for a Communist Russia and was popular with the people. This led to the Bolsheviks gaining support.
June: The Provisional Government betray the Russian soldiers and launch the June Offensive to gain land, when the soldiers had been promised a defensive war.
The July days: Bolsheviks and workers escalate from striking to armed riots. As a result, key Bolsheviks are arrested and Lenin is exiled. Kerensky becomes Prime minister of the Provisional Government
