The Life of Jesus

This gallery includes pieces of artwork that tell some of Jesus’ story on earth and shows great movement.

This is a painting of Mary holding Jesus who is being worshiped after he was born. I chose this painting because it shows the beginning of Jesus' life and it shows movement. Everyone's eyes are focused on Jesus and the area that Jesus is in is very bright compared to the rest of the painting.
This is a painting of Jesus teaching in the temple when he was young. I chose this painting because it shows Jesus' knowledge at a young age and the painting shows great movement. Almost everybody's attention is on Jesus. I really like how the artist has the crowd wearing dark clothing and Jesus wearing white.
This is a painting of John the Baptist baptizing Jesus. I chose this painting because it was an important moment in Jesus' life and it shows a lot movement. The angels and John the Baptist are looking at Jesus. The artist used lines in the top center of the painting to show that heaven was looking over them and to draw the viewer's eyes to Jesus.
This is a painting of Jesus waking Lazarus from the dead. I chose this piece because Jesus performed a miracle and the artist depicted the crowd's facial expressions really well. The artist created a circular halo to help draw attention to Jesus.
This is a painting of Jesus preparing to wash the apostle's feet. I chose this painting because it shows a human side of Jesus and the artist has a lot of movement going on in this piece. He has circular halo's around Jesus and all of the shocked apostles. The artist has Jesus' hand up to one of the apostles saying that he wants to wash their feet.
This is a painting of the night one of the apostles betrayed Jesus by telling the Romans where he was. I chose this painting because it was an important moment that led to Jesus' death. The artist made the painting very dark, with the only light coming from a torch which shines on Jesus' face. The light from the torch draws the viewers attention to Jesus.
This is a drawing of Jesus being being brought before Pilate for judgement. I chose this drawing because Jesus is one step closer to death and the artist did a great job capturing the crowd's emotions. The artist has the crowd looking at Jesus and Jesus looking at Pilate so the viewer's attention is focused on them.
This is a painting of Jesus with a crown of thorns on his head being mocked by the Roman soldiers. I chose this painting because I think it is important that the artist showed the human side of Jesus. The artist also showed great movement by having Jesus brighter than the rest of the painting so the viewer's eyes focus on Jesus. Edouard Manet also used the lines to create the spear that is pointing towards Jesus to help draw attention to Jesus.
This is a painting of Jesus being crucified on the cross. I chose this painting because it is one of the most important parts of Jesus' life. The artist made Jesus' cross in the center and used diagonal lines to make the other two crosses facing Jesus' to draw attention to Jesus. The artist also has Jesus' followers on the left looking up at him sadly and the Jews on the right looking up at him with anger.
This is a painting of Jesus' body being placed in a tomb. I chose this because this is the final step before he rises from the dead and the painting has some nice movement in it. The artist painted the area around Jesus with light shades so the viewer's eyes would focus on Jesus. The artist also has the bystanders looking at Jesus to help draw your attention to Jesus' body.
