Christ in the House of Martha and Mary is a very detailed piece in which Vermeer uses loose strokes that enhance realistic of the scene, especially from afar. The colors of the painting are slightly mellow but stand out in the dark yellow background in the scene. Such as the woman in the center wearing the brownish yellow top over the bright white dress. The figures are fairly still and lack movement and look 3-dimensional as a result of intricate creases in their clothing, as well as a result of their stances or positions.
