Forms of Nature

I chose the theme of nature and a variety of photos with different mediums. The word nature is applicable to every picture here. The images include, animals, plants, depictions of different elements that are needed in order for nature to survive such as water and light. I also included an image which is meant to portray human nature and culture by the image of the cranes. As humans we are apart of nature and our habitat now includes large buildings which are made using cranes. Buildings are places people work and live alone with the other elements of nature we need to survive such as water and oxygen. I included little examples of nature as well as a landscape depicting everything in nature, animals, water, clouds trees, etc., showing the circle of life and the different forms it can be represented.

This is an image of a species of fish through the medium of Gyotaku print. This is how fisherman would document the fish they caught in teh 1900's. On the image you can see 3 fish of the same species. All are printed the colour blue. Two fish seem to be over lapping each other on the right of the picture and one appears to be slightly faded. This may be due to the medium and how the print developed or the fish may indeed be lighter than the other. The title of the image is Gyotaku Print- John Dory, Zeus faber. The title indicates the name of the fish is John Dory and it belongs to the species Zeus faber. This is applicable to scientific looking. Fisherman used this in order to identify and keep track of the fish they have caught. Through this documents were recorded and species of fish were discovered expending the knowledge of species that exist. This technique was also used for to track species for plants. This type of documentation allowed for taxonomist to identify species and arranged them accordingly.
This is a street art painting. In the image there is water, a boat and a women the the head and tail of a fox. The water is creating a wave that is pushing the boat along in the water. In the water are various aquatic plants. The women in the boat is facing the back of the boat. The boat on the other hand is facing the wave. The boat is a brown colour on blue water. The women is a pale white colour and is naked of any other clothing. The back ground is white. The title is Natureza Viva in Portuguese meaning Living Nature. The titles explains that the graffiti is a representation of nature in the industrialized nature of the human population. in the back of the photo you can see cranes at work indicating industrialization. This image challenges perspective. The title indicates it is living nature, when in fact a women with a fox as a head in not natural. But this painting has many elements of nature involved in it, water is a part of nature, the plants growing in the water are nature, humans as well as foxes separately apart of nature. Because the artist put human and fox together it challenges the perspective of nature.
Here is a water colour drawing from 1813, before photographs were invented. The artist drew a Kangeroo, on a flat field with trees in the distance. There is a blue sky and thin white clouds across the background. The kangaroo is grey as the title describes with black hands and feet. This image relates to the course because it is a realistic representation of a kangaroo for the period of time it was drawn in.
Here is a black and white photograph of the Lily flower. It is a side view of a fully bloomed flower that has approximately 6 peddles. The peddles appear to have black freckle like spots on them. The photograph shines more light on the flower itself and the stem disappears into the darkness of the black background. This photograph plays with photographic truth because it is a black and white image therefore the flower may have been another colour for example a light pink, but the viewer is unable to tell because of the manipulation of the photograph. The also is a aesthetic representation of a flower, with the dark background and the illuminating white flower in the centre. The photographs portrays the beauty that a flower holds.
This is a painting of a landscape. Cattle are presented in a natural habitat surrounded by trees, plants and water. The landscape also shows the sky and clouds which is half of the painting meanwhile the other half is of the ground and trees. The cattle are walking toward the water. Water is a very important element in nature because all living things need water to survive. The painting shows a sun rise or the day setting because the top half of the sky is darker then the centre which is covered with a yellow undertone, indicating the light of the sun. The trees are green, scattered around the landscape, and the ground is covered in dirt and scrubs. This painting is a representation of linear perspective. If you look at the cattle the first one drinking from the water is larger then the others following him. As well as the trees, the ones in the foreground are larger than those in the back. The clouds also look as if they are in the distant high skies.
