ART 111/351 Downing

"The Ambassadors" was done by a German born painter living in England, by the name of Hans Holbein, of two separate ambassadors. The painting is done using oil paint on wood panel. The painting is very detailed with many different objects to represent part of the men's culture and ideals, such as their study of astronomy and of the arts. One object of representation is the skull that can be seen on the floor to symbolize everyone's mortality, the skull is distorted using a method called anamorphosis.
