Harlem Rennisance 

A time frame named after a neighborhood that became an outlet of african american culture based arts in the 1900's.  

Lois Mailou Was an Afrifcan American Feminist and painter. This piece was inspired by the Sande Society initiation ritual. The Sande Society is a secret society for women in New Guinea and Liberia.
Jazz became popular in the Harlem Renaissance. Jazz is improvised and was usually played in clubs for diverse crowds.
Jacob Lawrence made his paintings to show daily life in Harlem. In this painting it seems to show a library so he could possibly be trying to show intellectual equality.
Another Painting by Jacob Lawrence, this one shows both black and white people working together to construct the white house. This shows that the races are learning to work together for their country.
