Iconography in the early Middle Ages
This image depicted Saint John the Theologian. I include this image because it shows how some people revered saints enough that they would be painted with halos around their head.
Here is the Virgin Mary and the Christ child. Both have halos indicating holiness and show an artist's rendition of Christ when he was a baby.
I include this partial image of Christ to show that some people didn't approve of the use of icons to help praise holy figures.
