"Scrooge had a very small fire, but the clerk's fire was so very much smaller that is looked like one coal. But he couldn't replenish it, for Scrooge kept the coal-box in his own room; and so surely as the clerk came in with the shovel, the master predicted that it would be necessary for them to part." -narrator Coal was a huge resource in the industrial revolution. Not only was it mined creating hundreds to thousands of jobs, it was used from businesses to consumers, however not many of the lower classes could afford it, because of the cost to extract it.
"Every man with a merry Christmas on his lips should be boiled in his own pudding, and buried with a stake of holly through his heart." -Ebenezer Scrooge Scrooge felt that the spirit of christmas (charity, joy etc...) was a waste of both time and money when you could be making yourself all the richer.
"It is too late for me, but you can still change." -Marley's Ghost During the industrial revolution the sociocultural attitudes between the classes degraded. Those in the higher classes that owned factories felt that the lesser classes that worked for the factories were below them and treated them worse. We are still today struggling with this theme.
"I'm beginning to think you went through life with your eyes closed. Open them, open them wide." -spirit of christmas past Scrooge as a man of the "upper class" began to neglect and ignore the world around him, being the dealings of people of the lower classes.
"truth hurts, truth hurts..." -The spirit of Christmas past Scrooge is denying the truth that business has changed him, during the time of the industrial revolution the culture of the upper class changed a bit a well, because of factories they had a new "upper-hand" on the lower classes.
"Amen," "Did you say something?" "No," "Oh, I thought you had said-" "No I said nothing." -Scrooge & The Spirit of Christmas Present The industrial revolution caused people of the upper classes to have gain be their whole being. They begin to forget and bury the parts of them that were once charitable and giving.
"You are more worthless and less fit to live than millions like this poor man's son." -The spirit of Christmas Present Scrooge began to put his needs above others, because he was doing well for himself he began to believe that he was actually better than others.
"I will honor Christmas in my heart and try to keep it all the year." -Ebenezer Scrooge The spirit of Christmas is themes such as charity, and those values began to be forgotten in the industrial revolution.
"men's courses will foreshadow certain ends, to which if preserved in, they must lead." -The Spirit of Christmas Future Once someone is going in a direction, so-to-speak where they end up will be in that same direction. Today is the destination or farther down the path that civilization started to go during the industrial revolution.
"He became as good a friend, as good a master, and as good a man as the old city or any good old city, town or borough in the good old world." -Narrator Today we are changing socially for the better from the industrial revolution, however the major change in economy was during the industrial revolution itself.
